MOUSSAFER | THE TRAVELER
A fish-out-of-water black comedy about a young American man inexplicably obsessed with Lebanon—a country to which he has no real connection. Ignoring the fears of family and friends who know the region only through alarming news clips, he moves there in search of the romanticized adventure he’s imagined.
Reality hits quickly. Within hours of landing, his wallet, credit cards, and phone are stolen, leaving him stranded in a city where he knows no one. A cascade of comic missteps follows: a short-lived job at a northern soap factory, a desperate attempt to earn money by vlogging his misadventures, and an accidental rise to internet fame as he clumsily tries to meet political and religious leaders.
Eventually, a kindhearted taxi driver adopts him, attempting to teach him to drive in Beirut’s chaos, showing him the nightlife, and even drunkenly trying to marry him off to a cousin. It's a story about adventure, misadventure and ultimately the quest for connection in a sometimes lonely world.
